In Ceramics I and II, I was required to create a series of wheel thrown pieces. Instead of listing each objective in each caption please refer to this list:
Mugs: The students will explore the technique of handle pulling and creating a thin, uniform body. The pieces will be glazed and completely usable.
Bowls: The students will study a specific artist (I chose Lucie Rie) and emulate their bowls. The students will learn and understand how to trim a foot as well as the base of the bowl to create a uniform thickness throughout the space.
Jars: The students will be required to create a jar complete with a lid that is fully functional. Not only will it be interesting in shape and form, but also in surface and glazing technique. The students will use their knowledge of trimming, glazing and throwing in order to create a successful piece.
Pitchers: The students will learn how to pull a spout, handle and how to attach separate handles and spouts. The pitchers must be fully functional and completely uniform in thickness. Integration of accompanied cups will be graded for only one pot.
Throughout my ceramics experiences, I have grown to understand form, function and throwing techniques in order to create pots with quality craftsmanship.
